Add Volume and Reduce Wrinkles in Marco Island and Naples, FL
Rejuvenating the face for a younger-looking profile and sharper jawline no longer requires that patients undergo dramatic plastic surgery. Minimally invasive injections of Juvederm® from Naples, FL's Skin Wellness Physicians team, serving Marco Island, Bonita Springs, Ft. Myers, and the surrounding areas, can augment certain facial features for improved contours, as well as minimize certain types of facial lines for a more youthful appearance. This is a highly individualized treatment, and board-certified dermatologists Dr. Daniel Wasserman and Dr. Anne Marie Tremaine will help patients decide on the best member of the Juvederm® family to help them meet their goals.
What Causes Facial Lines and Volume Loss?
The number of birthday candles on your cake will have an influence on your overall skin quality. Thanks to the process known as intrinsic aging, from the moment we reach our 20s, our skin begins to gradually lose its elasticity and strength. This is because elements like collagen and elastin that keep it smooth when we're younger diminish over time.
But intrinsic aging isn't the only issue. In addition to this biological process, the skin is battered each day by exposure to UV rays from the sun, pollution, temperature changes, and gravitational forces. Smoking, heavy alcohol consumption, and a poor diet only make things worse for the skin. Genetics can also make certain people more prone to cosmetic changes to the face.
Sometimes, the frequent muscle contractions involved in facial movements result in already frail skin being unable to snap back in place. This leads to the formation of dynamic wrinkles, such as crow's feet next to the eyes. These are different from the lines, wrinkles, and folds that are permanently etched into the skin due to intrinsic damage, which are called static wrinkles. Juvederm® targets static wrinkles, as well as folds and volume loss.
What is Juvederm®?
Juvederm® is a popular family of FDA-approved injectable dermal fillers from Allergan. All of the fillers in the line contain hyaluronic acid as an active ingredient. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a gelatinous, clear chemical that the body produces naturally to cushion and lubricate areas like the eyes and joints.
The carbohydrate can bind to significant amounts of water to regulate moisture levels. The skin normally contains an abundance of hyaluronic acid in a person's youth. This is what gives skin its plumpness and radiance. Older skin produces less of the valuable HA, leading to wrinkles, drooping, and a pinched-in look.
When injected directly into the skin, Juvederm® fills in creases or augments select areas by adding physical volume.
The Juvederm® Collection
Choosing the right Juvederm® filler can seem overwhelming at first, but it doesn't have to be. Since its arrival, various subtypes have been developed, each designed to address a specific form of skin aging or damage on the face. The fillers are injected at varying depths, depending on the type. Injections usually focus on the center and lower part of the face.
The various Juvederm® products are similar, but vary in terms of how their molecules are arranged. Simply put, the arrangement affects how strong each product is, its consistency, and how easily it can spread after injection. The subtle differences may make a given product better suited for one patient than another.
Juvederm Ultra® corrects moderate to severe nasolabial folds and can also be applied for lip augmentation.
Ultra® Plus is similar to its counterpart, but can work on more severe, deeply set wrinkles and lines.
Aging often causes the cheeks and mid-face to become flattened, hollow, or sunken in. Juvederm Voluma® restores fullness to lift and round out the apples of the cheeks. This gel has a thick, viscous, and durable quality.
Vollure® is intended for softening moderate to severe wrinkles, such as marionette lines (also known as nasolabial folds). It is long lasting, and results blend naturally in the face. Note: Due to physician preference, Skin Wellness Physicians does not carry this filler.
Volbella®, the thinnest and lightest option in the Juvederm® collection, is designed to add subtle embellishments to the delicate lip and under-eye areas and to reduce fine lines around the mouth. Note: Due to physician preference, Skin Wellness Physicians does not carry this filler.
Beyond Juvederm®: Other Anti-Aging Solutions
In addition to Juvederm®, patients can also benefit from wide range of anti-wrinkle alternatives and skin rejuvenation techniques. When it comes to dynamic wrinkles—like branching crow's feet, elevens, or forehead wrinkles—the best option may be BOTOX®. Not to be confused with injectable dermal fillers like Juvederm®, BOTOX® is an injectable neuromodulator that temporarily relaxes the muscles in specific areas that are involved in creating wrinkles.
