Refresh, Lighten, and Brighten with Sciton Moxi™

Sciton Moxi™ at our Naples and Marco Island-based practice is a 1927 nm, fractionated, non-ablative laser that is used to treat pigmentation, sunspots, dull skin texture, and early signs of aging.

Fractionated and non-ablative are important aspects of this technology that not only allow this treatment to be gentle, but also have manageable downtime. This wavelength is safe to use on all skin types, as well as in hair-baring areas, making it a great facial laser treatment for men.

The ideal patient is interested in preventative care, treating early signs of sun damage and aging skin. Another good candidate is someone looking to maintain their results after a more aggressive laser treatment.

You can expect to feel the laser, but we often use topical numbing and a chiller fan to lessen the discomfort. The laser can stimulate the cold sore virus, so prior to your appointment, an oral antiviral will be sent to the pharmacy. Typically, you will arrive early for photos and the application of a topical numbing cream. After your face is cleaned, the treatment will begin. The device is rolled back and forth over the skin and feels like prickly heat. With each pass, the heat builds a little more. After the treatment, the heat subsides quickly, although it can feel like you have a sunburn. You can use ice to reduce the heat sensation and swelling.  It takes about 10 to 15 minutes to treat the full face, and we can treat other areas, such as the neck, chest, hands, and arms.

The downtime associated with Moxi™ treatments is minimal and depends on the settings used. You can expect redness, swelling, mild crusting, and a rougher texture of the skin for five to seven days. The top layer will slough off, but this happens without discomfort, and you are able to go about your daily activities. The after care is sun avoidance and following a gentle skin care regimen.

After a series of Moxi™ treatments, you can expect the skin to be lighter, brighter, and more uniform in appearance. This laser does stimulate collagen, which can be helpful for early signs of aging, but is not the correct treatment choice for deep wrinkles or severe sun damage. Overall, the treatment is gentle, quick, and easy to recover from. Come see if Sciton Moxi™ might be the right treatment option for you.
