Hyaluronic Acid Fillers vs. Collagen Stimulators: How Do They Compare?
Even though they’re a quick, straightforward, and low-risk option, injectable fillers make up a complex part of the world of cosmetic treatments. They come in a range of forms, each of which has unique benefits. Wondering about what differentiates the various available facial fillers? Our Naples-based team is happy to explain that not all injectable gels work the same way.
Since there are so many alternatives available, choosing the best filler for you may seem confusing or intimidating. The most important thing to understand when feeling this way is that our team of injectors has the education, knowledge, and experience to help choose the ideal filler for you—and even to determine whether a filler is the best choice at all. You don’t have to be an authority on injectables to enjoy their benefits. Still, a little knowledge about what is available can help to ease your mind and give you confidence in your choice—both of which encourage less stress and improved results.
Hyaluronic Acid Fillers
Hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm® are gentle, versatile soft tissue injectables that are designed to add volume beneath the skin’s surface. All of these fillers contain a form of hyaluronic acid as their primary ingredient. This sugar molecule is naturally occurring in the skin and other connective tissues, where it provides hydration and cushioning by retaining water. Depending on the type of filler, results can last for between six to 18 months. One of the advantages of these fillers is that they can be dissolved with an injection of hyaluronidase if the patient chooses. Their lifespan and the reversibility makes them a good choice for patients who are having fillers for the first time.
Collagen Stimulators
Biostimulatory fillers such as Sculptra® don’t just physically add volume below the surface, but also encourage the skin to gradually produce more of its own collagen. These substances don’t contain hyaluronic acid and can’t be “reversed” easily, but the results tend to last longer because of the natural collagen production. These are better for larger areas, but are not ideal for delicate areas of skin.
